Ikhlas Yagoub, 24, and another colleague who has not been named, were shot dead on 25 October 2011 by the Sudanese security forces while they were on their way home. Both Ikhlas and his colleagues were studying Education at the University of Zalingei. Security sources said the two students were killed in crossfire while the security were chasing a rebel group. According to reports, Ikhlas was a member of the United People's Front (UPF), a student political organisation that is connected with Sudan Liberation Army-Abdul Wahid (SLA-AW).
