The police used live ammunition to disperse a peaceful demonstration in NYALA city 20th January 2015


On Monday 19th of January 2015 Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed Osman, nicknamed “one Giga”, an electronic devices merchant from the Bani-Halba tribe living in Imtidad Karare neighborhood, was shot dead by members of the Rapid Support Forces inside Al-Shabi market in Nyala city. The incident occured in broad daylight. In the evening the family of the victim and a number of civilians gathered for a peaceful demonstration to the Governor’s house calling for the disbanding of the Rapid Support Forces. The police dispersed them by using tear gas and live ammunition.

On Tuesday 20th January another, even larger, demonstration gathered that included some students, and headed to the Governor’s house. However, with a government helicopter flying over their head, they were intercepted by the police who used live ammunition to disperse the demonstrators. As a result six (6) persons were severely injured;
