​The Killing, Rape and looting by the Janjaweed militia continued in Darfur - 5th to 8th March 2015

South Darfur-Kalma IDP camp

On the 5th March around 10.00am three (3) women were attacked and raped by Janjaweed militia men in Wadi Talata(Talata valley) area east of Kalam IDP Camp, when they went to collect fire wood. They were found by their families around 4.00pm and reported the incident to the police, but no action was taken. 

West Jabal Marra - 6th March

A group of Janjaweed militia men entered their animals in some of the citizens’ farms in Um-Alkhayrat area. When the farmers chase the animals away from their farms, the militia men opened fire, killing four (4) and injuring (8). More Janjaweed gathered in the area as well as the citizens, and the situation remains very tense.

East Jabal Marra-8th March

A group from the Rapid Support Forces attacked some farmers in their farm and looted the water pumps that belong to: Abkar Eisa, Abdallah Adam Abdallah, Babiker Toor, and Adam Musa. The police interfered and the situation remains tense.

In around 11.00am Halima Adam Mohamed from Dobo village was attacked by three (3) Janjaweed militia men, when she went to bring water from the nearby well. They attempted to rape her and when she resisted, they shot her dead, police was informed but no action was taken.


SUDO UK calls on the Government to disband the Rapid Support Forces as well as the Janjaweed as these are consistently committing human rights abuses in Darfur. All those individuals or groups responsible for committing human rights violations must be brought to justice.

SUDO UK calls on UNAMID to take strong action in order to fulfil its mandate, including its obligation to “prevent attacks against civilians, within its capability and areas of deployment, without prejudice to the responsibility of the Government of the Sudan”, and the requirement “to investigate and hold accountable those who are responsible, and promote efforts to disarm the Janjaweed and other militias”.
