The Janjaweed militia continue terrorizing the Citizens in Darfur 25th February-28th February 2015


East Jabal Marra-25th February

On the 25th February a group from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked Muntasir Saleh Ahmed in his shop in Fanga, killing him and looting the shop.

On the same day a group form the RSF attacked and killed Osman Abdul-Jabar and his wife Samia Yahya Adam in Khazzan Tongor(Tongor Dam), and looted their cattle.

Kass twon-25th February

A soldier by the name of Ahmed, belong to Abu-Tayira police approached a group of citizens who were chatting and shot Hashim Ahmed Abulolo who is a teacher, for an unknown reason. He was later arrested by his commander and remained in the Army custody awaiting trial.

West Jabal Marra Eyewar IDP Camp-26th February

When they went to collect fire wood from outskirt of the camp, the Janjaweed militia men shot dead Bahr Mohamed Adam Taha, Hamza Haroun Adam and injured Abdulrazig Younis Adam. The police was informed.

East Jabal Marra

The citizens in west Jabal Marra area suspected that, the government is using some kind of bombs that are causing skin disease and stomach problems. These symptoms occurred in Darbo area, Morra and Kawther village after the latest government bombardment to west Jabal Marra area, (Oct 2014 and February 2015 SUDO UK updates). On the 28th February two kids died in Kawther village as a result of swelling heads, stomach and skin allergy. These diseases were unknowns to the area before the bombing.

North Darfur-Al-Fasher City-27th February

On the 27th February the Mutamad (commissioner) of Al-fasher city held a meeting in his office with twenty (20) Sheikhs (tribal leaders) form Zamzam IDP Camp, and talked about the upcoming elections. At the end of his speech he told the Sheikhs any one of you who doesn’t want to participate in the election he should leave my office now. The twenty (20) Sheikhs stood up and left his office, while they are leaving his office, the Mutamad said “OK, now we know how to deal with you” in an intimidating way.

North Darfur 28th February

Adam Hamid Musa was driving the car of Zakaria Mohammedaie, transporting passengers and their good between Al Fasher and Korma. Near Birka 25Km from Korma, he was shot at and injured by nine (9) Janjaweed militia members on camel backs. He was forced to stop the car, the passengers were off loaded beaten and their properties looted, The Janjaweed then set the car on fire forcing the passenger to continue their journey on foot to Korma.

SUDO UK calls on the Government to disband the Rapid Support Forces as well as the Janjaweed as these are consistently committing human rights abuses in Darfur. All those individuals or groups responsible for committing human rights violations must be brought to justice.

SUDO UK calls on UNAMID to take strong action in order to fulfil its mandate, including its obligation to “prevent attacks against civilians, within its capability and areas of deployment, without prejudice to the responsibility of the Government of the Sudan”, and the requirement “to investigate and hold accountable those who are responsible, and promote efforts to disarm the Janjaweed and other militias”.
