Rapid Support Forces Cause Carnage in South and Central Darfur


South Darfur-AL-SALAM IDP camp -1st January 2015

A group from the Rapid Support Forces on four 4x4 cars attacked Zahra Suleiman and her brother in their farm. They attempted to rape Zahra and when she resisted and her brother interfered they shot them both dead and drove away. Police were informed.

Central Darfur-1st January 2015

A group from the Rapid Support Forces, in roughly forty 4x4 cars accompanied by some on horses and camels, attacked a number of villages in west JABAL MARRA. They looted all the villagers’ belongings and burned them to the ground, killing a number of civilians in the area. Those who were killed included:

SUDO UK calls on the Government to disband the Rapid Support Forces as well as the Janjaweed as these are consistently committing human rights abuses in Darfur. All those individuals or groups responsible for committing human rights violations must be brought to justice

SUDO UK calls on UNAMID to take strong action in order to fulfil its mandate, including its obligation to “prevent attacks against civilians, within its capability and areas of deployment, without prejudice to the responsibility of the Government of the Sudan”, and the requirement “to investigate and hold accountable those who are responsible, and promote efforts to disarm the Janjaweed and other militias”
