Sudanese Students at risk of torture and ill-treatment


The National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) arrested Mohamed Isahaq Tifour Mohamed Nahar, 26 student and political activist at Nyala University since December 2, 2012 following protests at Nyala University as a result of the imposition of tuition fees on Darfuri students contrary to the Doha and Abuja peace agreements, which states that Darfuri students are exempted from paying for their undergraduate studies in Sudanese universities. He has been detained incommunicado for nearly four months without access to his family or a lawyer.

Mohamed Osman Mohamed Moussa, 27 political activist and leader of Darfur Students Association in Khartoum, detained incommunicado and without access to his family and lawyer since November, 10 2012. Mohamed and a number of the association’s members were on their way to a meeting of the association in Omdurman when he was arrested from Siraj station in Omdurman by the NISS members.

According to students’ –who were detained and released- testimonies, Mohamed Osman Mohamed Moussa was subjected to severe torture in the premises of a National Intelligence and Security (ShendiBuilding).

 Mohamed’s family and the Darfur Students Association planning a sit-in in front of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Sudan to demand his release.

SUDO UK is concerned about continued targeting of Darfuri students by the Sudanese security services, Where score of Darfuri students have been arrested and harassed in the previous couple of months.
