Sudanese Activist at Risk of Torture

Ahmed Koko Kunda, 60 years, Sudanese civil society activist has been detained since Wednesday May 1st without access to his family or a lawyer and he is at risk of being tortured or ill-treated.

Ahmed Koko Kunda is the founder of literacy and elders’ education centre in Umbadda Omdurman, a civil society activist and member of the clan of Kwaleeb from the Nuba ethnic group was detained on Wednesday May 1st at seven o’clock PM.  He was called by a number of plain cloth security members, who came to his house with a pickup car and arrested him. His family tried to visit him but they were denied access.

He is being held because of his ethnic background on the ground that he is supporting SPLM North. He is held without charges and without access to lawyer and there is a risk of being tortured or otherwise ill-treated.
