The Rapid Support Forces Attack Civilians in Khor Abeche Area, Saturday 22 Mar 2014
On Saturday 22 Mar 2014, around 10.30 Am, the Government militia known as the Rapid Support Forces attacked the civilians in Khor Abeche area, between north and south Darfur states, about 50km south east of El-Fashir. The attackers looted the livestock and other goods, burning the deserted villages and the IDP Camp next to the UNIMAD offices, killing a number of civilians and kidnapping three including Omda Hussain Abaker Mohammed, Osman Adam Ahmed Khater and Eisa Abdallah (known as Sheekh Helailloo). This all occured under the watch of UNAMID and hundreds of civilians are still trapped in the UNAMID camp. This is the third time the Janjaweed militia have attacked and burned Khor Abeche villages since the beginning of the Conflict in 2003.
SUDO UK calls on the Government to disband the Janjaweed and all other pro-government militias.
SUDO calls on UNAMID to take strong action in order to fulfil its mandate, including its obligation to protect civilians.
