Mohammed Abdullah Al Duma, Chairperson of the Darfur Bar Association (DBA) and four other lawyers were arrested on Sunday 1st July as they attended a press conference held by the human rights defender Dr Bushra Gammar Hussein. Those arrested included Rehab Al-Fadil Sharief, Gibril Abdella Hasabo and Rashida Al-Alansari. The five lawyers were taken by members of the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) and there are grave fears about their treatment.
Dr Bushra Gamar, who was released last week after one year in detention, held the press conference to thank those who supported him during his detention.
SUDO UK condemns the arrests of the lawyers by the NISS and is demanding the immediate release of the detainees.
The lawyers were released on the First of July. They were asked to report to National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) offices in the next morning.
