Killing, rape and looting by the Janjaweed and aerial bombardment in East Jabal Marra -9th, 12th and 13th February 2015

Two (2) women were killed by the Janjaweed militia men because they resisted being raped by them. An un-named woman was killed in her house on 9th February and Maryam Mohamed Osman from Jadda IDP camp was killed in her farm on 12th February around 4.30pm by the same group. No case was filed at the police station against the perpetrators.

On the 13th February 2015 the government bombarded East Jabal Marra area killing a herding boy by the name of Nabeel Ismail Ahmed Omar (child), and a number of his cattle.
On the same day in Gereida locality, a group of Janjaweed militia men attacked Shatoora village, killing two (2) women and looted a number of cattle. The Police was informed but they refused to open a case against the perpetrators, because, they said, it was outside their authority.

SUDO UK calls on the Government to disband the Rapid Support Forces as well as the Janjaweed as these are consistently committing human rights abuses in Darfur. All those individuals or groups responsible for committing human rights violations must be brought to justice.

SUDO UK calls on UNAMID to take strong action in order to fulfil its mandate, including its obligation to “prevent attacks against civilians, within its capability and areas of deployment, without prejudice to the responsibility of the Government of the Sudan”, and the requirement “to investigate and hold accountable those who are responsible, and promote efforts to disarm the Janjaweed and other militias”.
