Killing, looting and an aerial bombardment in - East Jabbal Marra - 29th January to 31st January 2015


On the 29th of January Janjaweed militia attacked the village of Kort and killed Abdulwahab Musa and Abdalla Gumaa; they also looted the village of Toronga and Mermanga and burnt it to ashes.

On the 30st of January the Janjaweed militia attacked Tor area raping 32 year old women, killing Ahmed Elhaj and Suleiman Ahmed Hassan and looting 250 cows.

On the 30st of January the Antonov plane bombarded and burnt the village of Toro, Dalgo and Tarma and also burnt a large farming land.

Gereida: On the 31st of January the Janjaweed militia killed Ali Mohammed Ali Yagoub from Hashaba village, when he was collecting fire wood at the outskirts of the village and they looted his donkey.

On the same day the Janjaweed militia abducted a 7 year old child, his father with the assistance from the other villagers started to search for the child. While searching they found the child with his feet tied in an empty nomadic settlement. They freed the child and reported the incident to the police in Gereida, but when the police arrived in the settlement area, all the shelters were removed and no one was there.

SUDO UK calls on the Government to disband the Rapid Support Forces as well as the Janjaweed as these are consistently committing human rights abuses in Darfur. All those individuals or groups responsible for committing human rights violations must be brought to justice.

SUDO UK calls on UNAMID to take strong action in order to fulfil its mandate, including its obligation to “prevent attacks against civilians, within its capability and areas of deployment, without prejudice to the responsibility of the Government of the Sudan”, and the requirement “to investigate and hold accountable those who are responsible, and promote efforts to disarm the Janjaweed and other militias”.
