Indiscriminate Aerial Bombardment, North Kordofan

On May 5th, 2013, the Sudanese government bombarded a small village "فريق” "Fareeq" West of Kaleng on the way to Abu Karchola from Errahad Town in North Kordofan. The village is inhabited by a group of Tukum from the Tagali ethnic group.

Twelve persons were killed including Ibrahim Ageed, his wife, his two children and his sister. A number of persons were injured; three of them were transferred to Errahad town in dangerous condition.

Since the outbreak of the war in Darfur and more recently also in South Kordofan and Blue Nile, the Government of Sudan has used indiscriminate aerial bombardment as a weapon to combat rebellion. These bombardments have resulted in the loss of civilian lives and the destruction of civilian infrastructure, the killing of livestock and the destruction of civilian property.

SUDO (UK) continues to call on the Sudanese government to stop the indiscriminate bombardment of civilians. SUDO (UK) has also called on armed opposition groups, including the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), to end attacks on civilians and to respect international humanitarian law.

SUDO UK condemns all indiscriminate bombardment of civilian settlements and property and calls on the warring parties not to endanger civilian population or put their lives and properties at risk.
