Continued Killing, looting and kidnapping by the RSF and Janjaweed militia In Darfur - 5th February 2015


South Darfur Buram locality 3rd February 2015

On the background of the recent conflict between Fellata and Salamat tribes in Buram locality (SUDO UK update on the 6th Feb 15 – Samani Hamadain was attacked and killed in his farm by a group of Fellata militia, he is from the Habaniya tribe. No matter whether he was intentionally killed or being mistaken as from the Salamat tribe, this may ignite another fighting between Fellata and Habaniya.

On the 4th of February

Although the market in Nyala city is well guarded by the Police, but an unknown group broke into the market and looted nine (9) shops and lot-of cash money.

West Darfur-East Jabal Marra 5th February 2015

On the 5th February a group from the Rapid Support Force combined by Janjaweed militia men on Horse's and Camel's backs, attacked Basheem village, killing ten (10) merchant, injuring 13. They kidnapped 22 persons and looted the village market. Those who were killed include;

1-Abobar Abdallah

2-Mohamed Ishaq

3-Ali Abakr

4-Daoud Yahya

On the same day in Eid al-Garad area a combined group from the RSF and the Janjaweed militia men riding horses and camels killed (15) persons, injured 17 others, and looted seven (7) heads of cattle from Adam Eissa who was also killed.

On the same day a group of Janjaweed militia men on horses and camel back attacked the village of Hejair-Tono, killing Mos’ab Issa and Mahjoub Al-Doma. They looted the village, seizing some livestock, and burned the entire village.

On the 5th February a group of Janjaweed militia men attacked the village of Um Sayala, looted the village and severely beat Adam Bakheit Yahya and Fatima Omar Yahya (f). They also burned Um HashabaFagarein and Al-Doma villages and raped a woman in her farm in Sharafa valley; she was taken to Malum hospital.

On the 5th February a group of Janjaweed militia men attacked Kamanga and Doomey villages, killing Yagoub Yousif Yagoub. They looted the village, taking two heads of cattle, and burned both villages to the ground.

SUDO UK calls on the Government to disband the Rapid Support Forces as well as the Janjaweed as these are consistently committing human rights abuses in Darfur. All those individuals or groups responsible for committing human rights violations must be brought to justice.

SUDO UK calls on UNAMID to take strong action in order to fulfill its mandate, including its obligation to “prevent attacks against civilians, within its capability and areas of deployment, without prejudice to the responsibility of the Government of the Sudan”, and the requirement “to investigate and hold accountable those who are responsible, and promote efforts to disarm the Janjaweed and other militias”.
