On 29th of October 2014 a Government airplane bombarded MORRA area in East of JABAL MARRA, NERTITI locality, killing the IDP Haroon Jumma Haroon in his farm and burning more than 25 acres of the cultivated land.
On the same day 2 underage girls (11 years and 13 years old) were raped by 4 Janjaweed militia men in NERTITI IDPs camp.Police and UNAMID were informed.
Later on the same day the SHEIKHs (community leaders) of NERTITI IDPs camp had a meeting with the army area commander and the head of NISS – and they raised the issues of human rights abuses committed by Janjaweed militia men and army personnel against the IDPs, which included killing, rape, and looting of IDPs property.The army commander responded by shouting very abusive language and threatened to kill the sheikhs, then the sheikhs demanded that the head of the national security file a complaint against the army commander and the situation remains very tense.
On the same day 2 farmers from KALMA IDPs camp were killed by Janjaweed militia’s men while on their way home from their farm in WADI BERLY; the reason was to stop them from harvesting their farms. Those killed are:
SUDO UK calls on the Government to disband the Janjaweed and all other pro-government militias, and bring those individuals or groups responsible from committing human rights violation to justice
SUDO UK calls on UNAMID to take strong action in order to fulfil its mandate, including its obligation to “prevent attacks against civilians, within its capability and areas of deployment, without prejudice to the responsibility of the Government of the Sudan”, and the requirement “to investigate and hold accountable those who are responsible, and promote efforts to disarm the Janjaweed and other militias”.
