Four Attacks on Civilians in Nyala in Three Days


SUDO (UK) today expressed grave concern about an upsurge of attacks on civilians around Nyala and the reported lack of response from UNAMID.

On Monday 24th June 2013 armed men in a 4x4 Landcruiser equipped with a Doshka machine gun attacked internally displaced persons (IDPs) who were returning to Dereige IDP camp from their farms in Um Dirbahia, 15Km North East of Nyala. Four IDPs were reportedly killed and eight were injured.

On Tuesday 25th June 2013 in Nyala a person was dragged out of his home in the Korea area by four unidentified persons and was killed. On the same day Mohammed Ahmed Abdalla, was called out of his home in Kass, west of Nyala, by unidentified men and shot dead.

On Wednesday 26th June IDPs returning from their farms to Ottash camp in Nyala were attacked by armed men on camels. Their mobile phones and money were looted and five IDPs were injured.

It is reported that all of these incidents were brought to the attention of UNAMID in Nyala but they have not taken any action.
